The Shaanxi Y-8 or Yunshuji-8 aircraft is a medium size medium range transport aircraft produced by Shaanxi Aircraft Company in China based on the Soviet Antonov An-12. It has become one of China's most popular military and civilian transport-cargo aircraft with many variants produced and exported. Although the An-12 is no longer made in Ukraine the Chinese Y-8 continues to be upgraded and produced. An estimated 75 Y-8 aircraft had been built by 2001.

Japan's ShinMaywa amphibians.1
A substantial redesign of the Shaanxi Y-8 (Chinese copy of the An-12
Cub), the aircraft was initially revealed with provisional
specifications in model form to the public at the November 2002 Zhuhai

the system as the Shaanxi Y-8 and has since produced a reconnaissance
variant for maritime use in their navy. Exporting was restricted to
"Soviet Friendly" nations.3

transport aircraft developed from the AN-12 from 1969, the first
prototype flying in 1974.9
