The Saunders-Roe SR.177 was a 1950s project to develop a combined jet- and rocket-powered interceptor aircraft for the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. The German Navy and Air Force also expressed interest and had planned to buy large numbers but the SR-177 project was cancelled in 1957 after the German government pulled out and decided to buy Lockheed F-104 Starfighters instead. Without the orders the British Government were not prepared to invest the money needed to complete the project.
