The Martin 2-0-2 was one of the first modern airliners. The twin-engined piston aircraft was designed and built by the Glenn L. Martin Company.

as replacement for the Douglas DC-3, that first flew in prototype form
in November 1946.1
The plane was one of the airline’s newer Martin 2-0-2 ships and was
bound for Minneapolis from Chicago with 33 passengers and three crew
members.
It left Chicago at 3:50 p. m.2

Martin 2-0-2 is the predecessor of the Martin 4-0-4.

When production of the earlier Martin 2-0-2 was stopped due to
problems with wing structural failure the company decided to re-wing
an improved version (which had already flown as the Martin 3-0-3).9
Martin 2-0-2, Martin 4-0-4, and versions of the Douglas DC-3 specially
modified in the 1940s by Southwest Airways.10

DC-3 replacement on feeder routes in the USA.11
