The Douglas DC-8 was a piston-engined airliner project by Douglas Aircraft. A prototype aircraft more than a decade before the Douglas DC-8 jetliner the DC-8 piston craft was to have propellers in the tail an idea first used at Douglas by Edward F. Burton on a fighter project. The project was cancelled after development costs made the model commercially unviable.

It is the successor of the Douglas XB-42 Mixmaster .
FAN of the Douglas DC-8 and have been for over 40 years! I originally
created this site in the year 2000 to display my DC-8 model collection.6
the Boeing 707 and Douglas DC-8 are types which are highly unlikely to
ever visit again, which only increase their claim as icons of a past
noisier and smokier age of aviation.7
The Douglas DC-8 had a 30 degree swept-wing as opposed to its
competitor, the Boeing 707, which had a 35 degree swept-wing.8
The Douglas DC-8 was the first entry into the commercial jet airliner
market fielded by Douglas Aircraft. It is a 4 engine model.9
