built the Cranfield A1 in the early 1980s. Previously the first such
project in the UK was the Southampton Man-Powered Aircraft Project
that was run in the late 1960s.2

The Cranfield A1 is still there but looking rather down at
heel.Apparently it is used by the College for accident investigation
but in a non-destructive way.6
the Cranfield A1-400 was light aircraft actually built and
the unbuilt projects were A-3 and ASTRA Hawk experimental
aircraft.7
