The Columbia JL was a large single-engined amphibian aircraft designed by Grumman Aircraft but built by the Columbia Aircraft Corp. It was intended to replace the Grumman J2F Duck but the type did not reach production status.

The Columbia XJL-1 looks like a giant can opener. I love aviation museums.1

As an aside the Columbia XJL-1 was supposed to be a replacement for the Duck, but was manufactured to late (1946) to be put into full production.4

The Columbia XJL-1 was intended as a replacement for the Grumman J2F Duck amphibious biplane for the United States Navy. There were three XJL-1s built.7
