The Boeing E-767 is an airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft. It was designed in response to the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's requirements and is essentially the Boeing E-3 Sentry's surveillance radar and air control system installed on a Boeing 767-200.

The Boeing E-767 is fitted with Northrop Grumman APY-2 (originally was developed by Westinghouse) surveillance radar system mounted in a rotodome above the rear fuselage.1
The decision is between the Boeing E-767 AWACS, an IAI Phalcon on an A310 or an Ericsson Erieye on the ERJ-145. Four to eight platforms are required.2
