Rockwell-MBB X-31

The collaborative Rockwell-Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm X-31 Enhanced Fighter Maneuverability program was designed to test fighter thrust vectoring technology. Thrust vectoring allows the X-31 to fly in a direction other than where the nose is pointing resulting in significantly more maneuverability than most conventional fighters. An advanced flight control system provides controlled flight at high angles of attack where conventional aircraft would stall.

German Rockwell-MBB X-31 prototype and designed and built by a consortium of European nations formed in 1983.1
HARV and Rockwell-MBB X-31 (thrust vectoring systems of both aircraft also tested in the 16-Foot Transonic Tunnel Jet Exit Facility) were the first free-world aircraft to demonstrate multi-axis thrust 2
